The Department of General Medicine organized the Monthly Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme



The Department of General Medicine at Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute organized the Monthly Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme in February 2026. The session was held on Friday, 27th February 2026 at 2:00 PM in the General Medicine Link Room, 1st Floor, G Block (SRH). The CME focused on the topic “Recent Advances in Stroke”, an important and evolving area in clinical medicine due to the high burden of cerebrovascular disease worldwide.The session was delivered by Dr. Nirumal Khumar, Consultant Neurologist from Saveetha Medical College. The speaker provided an insightful overview of the latest developments in the diagnosis, management, and prevention of stroke. The discussion began with a brief overview of stroke epidemiology and the importance of early recognition of symptoms. Emphasis was laid on the concept of the “golden hour” in stroke management and the need for rapid medical intervention.
Dr. Nirumal Khumar highlighted recent advances such as improved neuroimaging techniques, updated thrombolysis protocols, and the expanding role of mechanical thrombectomy in eligible patients. He also discussed current guidelines for acute ischemic stroke management and the importance of multidisciplinary stroke care units in improving patient outcomes. Preventive strategies, including effective control of hypertension, diabetes, atrial fibrillation, and lifestyle modifications, were also emphasized.
Overall, the session successfully enhanced participants’ understanding of recent
advancements in stroke care and reinforced the importance of timely diagnosis and evidence- based treatment in improving patient survival and quality of life.
