‘Dentists and dental hospitals should use mobile clinics to reach all villages regularly to create awareness and treat people’ said Dr. Ashok Dhoble, Honorary Secretary-general, Indian Dental Association, while delivering Tmt. Janaki MGR endowment oration at Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research here today. Also artificial intelligence led mobile apps should be used to screen people so that all people get the best oral health. We should reach out to every school for a comprehensive screening of children. While there are over 3.5 lakh dentists in the country most of them are in urban and semi urban areas. With tobacco consumption widely prevalent seven to eight people die every day due to oral cancer and 80 to 90 per cent of the people have some form of periodontal disease. Poor awareness of the link between oral and general health is the main reason and he expressed the hope that the National Oral Health Policy expected in September will address these major issues.

Speaking on the occasion Dr.H.Tamizhchelvan, Dean, Sri Ramachandra Dental College and Hospital said in collaboration with Indian Dental Association a national level school oral health programme was held at Maharishi Vidhya Mandir, Mangadu today.
