Research
The first area of research focuses on the study of cancer stem cells to understand how cancer develops in general.
The aim is to identify and characterize these cancer stem cells and study their properties.
Our current focus is on serous ovarian cancer.
The second area of research aims to understand signaling pathways commonly affected in cancer.
Typically, cells are stimulated through receptors on their surface. These receptors are often overexpressed or amplified at the gene level in cancer.
Using a mass spectrometry-based approach, we have identified several novel phosphoproteins involved in the ErbB2 signaling pathway.
The third area of research is the identification of oncogenes and tumour suppressor genes important in the pathogenesis of ovarian cancer.
Through a novel bioinformatics approach, we have identified RNF144B and PPP2R2A and are currently evaluating their roles in ovarian cancer.
