After completing my PhD in the field of molecular genetics, I have been working for the last 16 years on the genomics of complex disorders. Recently with ICMR TSS fellowship received by my student we have completed a study on the role of BDNF, CREB1 and Serotonin receptor gene polymorphisms in the treatment response to antidepressants in patients with major depressive disorders. With the grant–in-aid received from national funding agencies me and my team are working on the complex disorders like chronic periodontitis, prostate cancer and the genetic factors associated with suicidal behaviour. In this regard we have reported significant association with few variant genotypes and periodontitis, suicidal behaviour. The variant sequences have also been submitted in GenBank sequences. We have also reported a distinct molecular profile of few miRNA gene polymorphisms and its association with chronic periodontitis. All our research has been published in reputed journals.
My special interest is on the genetic factors associated with chronic periodontitis, with the expertise we have developed in this field, we have been granted a project by Department of Health Research, Government of India under Human Resource development category titled “Workshop on Advanced Molecular Biology techniques in Dental-Genetic Research. This project was aimed at training the dental faculties on the molecular biology techniques; we have successfully completed two batches of training.
