I am Dr. Saravanan S, a general surgeon with over 15 years of experience specializing in advanced laparoscopic procedures. I completed my MBBS at Calicut Medical College, Kerala, and went on to earn my MS in General Surgery at Kilpauk Medical College, Chennai. My pursuit of advanced training led me to earn a DNB in General Surgery, as well as an MRCS from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. I further specialized with a Diploma in Minimal Access Surgery from the University of Strasbourg, France, and was awarded Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons in 2019. Recently, I became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
Currently, I serve as a Professor at Sri Ramachandra Medical College, where I’ve been involved in both clinical practice and medical education. i was part of the hospital’s first bariatric surgery team. My experience includes laparoscopic cholecystectomies, laparoscopic appendectomies, and extensive work in hernia repairs, colorectal surgeries, and advanced laparoscopic procedures such as adrenalectomy and pancreatectomy.
In addition to my clinical role, I’m deeply committed to improving medical education and hospital systems. I serve as co-chairman of the undergraduate curriculum committee, a member of the NMC curriculum committee, and co-convener at the SRIHER nodal center for Basic Medical Education. I also led the development of a computerized prescription entry system with a built-in decision review component to enhance patient safety.
Research and publication have been important aspects of my career. I have published extensively on topics ranging from diabetic foot infections to clinical pathways in laparoscopic procedures, as well as case studies on rare tumors. I am driven by a commitment to advancing surgical standards and mentoring the next generation of surgeons.
