Bio
Dr. T. Dhanasekar is an accomplished pulmonologist, academician, and researcher with over two decades of expertise in respiratory medicine. He currently serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Respiratory Medicine at Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, Chennai, and as Consultant Pulmonologist at Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre.
He obtained his MBBS from PSG Institute of Medical Sciences, Coimbatore, followed by a DTCD and DNB in Respiratory Medicine from Madras Medical College. In recognition of his professional contributions, he was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP), Edinburgh.
Dr. Dhanasekar’s professional journey reflects progressive leadership roles, beginning as Tutor and Assistant Professor, and advancing to Associate Professor, Professor, and Head of Department. He has guided and co-guided several Ph.D. projects in the fields of sleep medicine, environmental health, and clinical nutrition. His research interests span interventional bronchoscopy, thoracoscopy, respiratory imaging, and sleep medicine.
He is a distinguished member of leading professional bodies, including the Indian Chest Society, American College of Chest Physicians, European Respiratory Society, American Thoracic Society, and Indian Sleep Disorders Association. He has played pivotal roles in organizing major conferences such as NAPCON, TAPPCON, and NATCON, and has conducted specialized workshops on advanced bronchoscopy, pleuroscopy, and critical care.
A prolific researcher, Dr. Dhanasekar has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals on lung cancer, interventional pulmonology, tuberculosis, COPD, asthma, and rare pulmonary conditions. He has presented at international forums including the American Thoracic Society and European Respiratory Society congresses.
