Bio

Dr. A. Seethalakshmi is the Professor and Head of the Department of Nursing Foundations. In this role, she oversees the planning and implementation of curricula for B.Sc. Nursing First and Second Semester students, B.Sc. Nursing (Post Basic), and M.Sc. Nursing First and Second Year students. Her expertise and leadership ensure that the educational programs are rigorous and up-to-date, meeting the highest standards of nursing education.

As the Nursing Education Unit Secretary, Dr. Seethalakshmi is responsible for streamlining curriculum implementation. She achieves this by obtaining periodic feedback from students, conducting Faculty Development Programs, and organizing peer and student evaluations of faculty members. These initiatives are aimed at continuously strengthening the teaching-learning process and ensuring that both faculty and students are engaged in effective and dynamic educational experiences.

Dr. Seethalakshmi is deeply committed to enhancing the clinical experience for nursing students. She regularly organizes clinical instructor training sessions and facilitates clinical learning opportunities, ensuring that students gain practical, hands-on experience in real-world settings. Her efforts help bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, preparing students to excel in their nursing careers.

In her role as a faculty member and HOD, Dr. Seethalakshmi is also responsible for vetting and re-vetting examination questions, both internally and externally, to maintain high standards in question paper setting. She mentors students for their holistic development, providing guidance and support to help them achieve their academic and personal goals. Additionally, she offers guidance to departmental faculty in curriculum implementation, ensuring consistency and quality across all educational programs.

As a member of the research committee of the Faculty of Nursing, Dr. Seethalakshmi reviews research proposals, contributing to the advancement of nursing knowledge and practice. She is also involved in updating NAAC second criteria-related documents for the Faculty Quality Cell, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards. Since 2016, she has been guiding postgraduate dissertations and Ph.D. students in Nursing, fostering a culture of research and academic excellence. Her commitment to promoting student publications at various forums helps students gain recognition for their scholarly work.

In her additional role as Assistant Dean (Students – Nursing), Dr. Seethalakshmi facilitates both curricular and extracurricular activities for students. She organizes workshops and conferences on topics such as wound care, clinical pathways, and soft skills for nurses. These events promote continuous nursing education for faculty and students, keeping them abreast of the latest trends and developments in medical and surgical nursing.

Dr. Seethalakshmi also organizes the annual Patient Safety Awareness Week, which enhances student knowledge and prepares them to work within NABH accredited clinical settings. This initiative promotes quality and safe patient care, instilling a strong sense of professional responsibility in students.

Among her many contributions, Dr. Seethalakshmi has developed an online CNE module on Respiratory Assessment, prepared content for an assigned unit on Oxygenation for an upskilling certificate program, and implemented a session on teamwork in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council. These efforts reflect her dedication to advancing nursing education and practice, ensuring that both students and practicing nurses are well-equipped to meet the challenges of the healthcare industry.
