Dr. Sara Sapharina G.J is working as an Associate Professor in Sri Ramachandra Faculty of Nursing, SRIHER (DU) for the past 15 years. She completed her undergraduate Nursing from Omayal Achi college of Nursing in the year 2004. Her keen interest in teaching nursing students ignited her to become a clinical instructor cum Tutor at St. Joseph’s School and college of Nursing, Guntur, Andrapradesh till 2007. Then, completed her masters in Psychiatric Nursing at Sri Ramachandra University in the year 2009. Later, she secured her Doctorate in Nursing in the year 2023 at SRIHER (DU).
She was awarded NURFA FEST 2001 GOLD MEDAL for securing highest mark in Community Health Nursing- theory by TamilNadu Dr. M.G.R Medical University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. She has been a member of university committees like Safety committee member, Antiragging committee member, University website development committee member,Green club member and member-Ph.D. Research Proposal Scrutiny Sub-Committee. At the college level she is a member in Faculty quality cell and responsible for Criteria 5(NAAC).
She has five indexed publications and presented research papers in various national and international conferences all over India. She has been a resource person for various seminars, workshops and in continue nursing education programs. She has guided both the UG and PG students to complete their research projects and dissertation.
Apart from her contribution in academics and clinicals She has served as Secretary of 9th International Nurses Conference, Chief editor of Sri Sangamam, Sri Ramachandra school and college of nursing Alumni association , Editorial member in Sri Ramachandra Nursing Journal , Secretary of Sri Ramachandra school and college of nursing alumni association , Executive member of Sri Ramachandra school and college of nursing alumni association, Joint Secretary of 13th International Nurses Conference, Advisor (SNA) and Treasurer for National workshops.
Currently she is the Nodal officer for prime minister’s special scholarship scheme (PMSSS) for Jammu and Kashmir students.
According to World health organization in the year 2019 estimated that Schizophrenia is a chronic mental disorder that affects approximately 24 million people i.e., one in 300 people (0.32%) worldwide. Caregivers in rural and urban setting play a crucial role in supporting individuals with mental issues. They are responsible for taking care of mentally ill patients at home and successful treatment and compliance is dependence on a close relationship between healthcare team and caregivers. Therefore it is imperative to empower the caregivers how to care themselves as well patients.
The objectives of the study were to Assess the level of stress, coping and quality of life among caregivers of patients with schizophrenia, evaluate the effectiveness of Nurse led Caregiver Empowerment Program and Associate the stress, coping and quality of life with selected background variable among caregivers of patients with schizophrenia in both study and the control groups. The present study conclude that the nurse led caregiver empowerment program was found to be very effective in decreasing stress ,develop adequate coping and improving quality of life among caregivers of patient with schizophrenia Along with nurse led caregiver empowerment program, reinforcement and proper follow-up helps in prevention of relapse and better disease management
