Dr. Jayashree Seethapathy (Ph.D – SLHS, MASLP) is an Associate Professor and Head (Department of Audiology) at Faculty of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology, SRIHER. She has a passion for hearing evaluation in high risk infants, Auditory processing evaluation and management, neonatal hearing screening, and ototoxicity. Dr. Jayashree has more than thirteen years of teaching experience and has mentored numerous students. She has guided and supervised the publication of multiple Master’s theses in Audiology at SRIHER (DU). She is currently co-guiding a PhD thesis to implement an audio-vestibular monitoring programme for Head and Neck Cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy and chemoradiotherapy at SRIHER (DU).
She has always pursued new research areas and avenues. She is the co-investigator of an extramural project titled “Translation and validation of internet based cognitive behavioural therapy (i-CBT) for tinnitus in Tamil, Kannada and Hindi‟, funded by ICMR (2020-2023). This project is a collaborative effort with Manipal Academy of Higher Education. She was also the co-investigator of a project funded by the GATE-Young faculty research grant, SRU, titled “Efficacy of caregiver/parent administered remedial program for the management of APD” (2013 – 2014).
She has always promoted and supported multidisciplinary cooperation to ensure that individuals with speech, language, and hearing problems receive comprehensive care. She spearheaded the initiative to overcome loss-to-follow-up of patients who failed to report for the second newborn hearing screening.
Throughout her career, she has garnered a number of prizes and recognitions. In 2022, she was recently given the “Muktesh prize” at ISHACON. She earned the “Outstanding Paper Award” at the Neonatal conference on research and expert talks (NeoCORE, 2017) in Chennai, India in 2017. In 2014, the Acoustical Society of India awarded her presentation the “Best Paper Award – Speech Acoustics” at the National Symposium on Acoustics in Mysore.
She is the Associate Editor of the Bangalore Speech and Hearing Trust’s Journal of Hearing, Language, and Speech. She is also a member of the Board of Reviewers for a number of international journals, including the International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology, European Journal of Pediatrics, Journal of Hearing sciences, American journal of perinatology, Frontiers in Pediatrics, Pediatric research, and Journal of Audiology and Otology.
Dr. Jayashree has provided numerous talks and led training programmes at workshops and seminars on a wide range of topics including newborn hearing screening, hearing screening, hearing conservation, etc. She has given numerous presentations at national and international conferences. Additionally, she has arranged a multitude of conferences, seminars, CMEs, workshops, and lectures. She was the chairperson for an RCI-recognized State-level conference and workshop on “Community-based awareness for Inclusive Education and Rehabilitation” and “Auditory Processing Disorder: Assessment and Management” held at SRIHER (DU) in 2018. She is an RCI certified specialist and is a member for life of both the Indian Speech and Hearing Association (ISHA) and the Sri Ramachandra Speech and Hearing Alumni Association (SRSHAA).
In addition to being a competent clinician, Dr. Jayashree devotes her professional time to serving as a researcher, scholar, leader, teacher, and trainer for her peers and junior colleagues. She likes to constantly challenge herself with unique tasks and always attempts to deliver her best. She believes in learning from mistakes and seizes each opportunity with utmost confidence. She is a friendly and supportive mentor to all her students who does not hesitate to lend a helping hand when required.
