Bio

Dr.  Akila Ganesh is currently the Professor and Head, Department of Public Health Dentistry at SRIHER with an experience of 14 years. Dr. Akila Ganesh has completed her under graduation in the 2002 from Meenakshi Ammal Dental College, the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University Dr. Akila Ganesh has completed her post-graduation in the year 2010 from Meenakshi Ammal Dental College, Meenakshi Academy of Higher Education and Research. Dr. Akila Ganesh has graduated her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research She has mastered the skills of qualitative research methodology and has expertise in toll development and has developed five tolls in the field of dentistry. Her keen interests include treating and preventing public health problems and also with oral health of rural population and individuals with special health care needs.  She had guided several research projects for students and have encouraged them to present in various forums. She has 6 international publications and 20 national publications in reputed journals. She has also authored three chapters in textbooks. She has published one patent and has one copyright to her credit. She has won several best paper awards in various national conferences. She has two extramural research grants and two intramural research grants. Academics – Teaching public health dentistry which holds key for basis of dental health services and aspects of profession & responsibilities towards the public or community. Clinical – Extension activities like peripheral centres, dental camps, oral health education programs etc., Research – Research activities towards preventive aspects, health promotion and creating awareness about dental health among the community

• Development and Validation of Stress Assessment with Saliva (STRAWS) Scale among Mental Health Professionals

• Awareness of Emergence Management of Traumatic Dental Injuries among general public using TIME questionnaire

• Development and validation of a questionnaire for a KAP Survey on COVID 19 among the general public.

• Development and validation of a scale to assess ‘Traumatic Dental Injuries and Management of Injured Tooth’ among lay persons.

Was awarded the Pioneer in Public Health Dentistry during Molaris Awards 2024 by Indian Dental Association – Thiruvallur Branch on August 4, 2024

Gomathi Radhakrishnan Distinguished Alumni Award

• Awarded the ‘Gomathi Radhakrishnan Distinguished Alumni Award’ by Meenakshi University at the 17^th Convocation on 28^th December 2023.

Meritorious publication

Awarded during the National Science Day for the meritorious publication in the journal Caries Research (Impact factor – 4.056) in the year 2023.

Awarded during the International Women’s Day for the contribution towards the patent filed in the year 2023.

Appreciation award

Was awarded the Appreciation award for 10 years of continuous service at Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research in the year 2021.

International Best Researcher in Public Health’

Recipient of the ‘International Best Researcher in Public Health’ by Rula Awards on 15^th August 2019.

• Was awarded the Joseph John Gold Medal for securing the highest mark in the MDS University Examination held in February 2010

Soben Peter award for the Best Speaker

Was awarded the Soben Peter award for the Best Speaker in the Scientific Presentation at the XII National Conference of Indian Association of Public Health Dentistry at Kanpur, Nov 28 -30, 2007.

Gold Medal

Was awarded the Gold Medal for Securing the highest mark in General Medicine in III BDS University Examination conducted by The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Guindy, Chennai in 2000.
