Bio

Dr Shriraam Mahadevan, after his under graduation (MBBS) from Stanley Medical College, Chennai, completed his MD (Internal Medicine) and DM (Endocrinology) speciality training from the prestigious PGIMER, Chandigarh. He is working as a faculty in SRIHER from 2012 and as Professor and Head of the Department of Endocrinology from 2017. During his tenure the DM Endocrinology course was started in our Institute in 2019 and currently the department is training  2 DM candidates per year. With 25 years of post-MD experience, he is an astute and compassionate physician and works with the moto of patient care first. He is a dedicated  and passionate teacher and received several accolades and awards for his teaching capabilities including the Honorary National Professor from the Indian Medical Association. From research perspective he tries to keep himself updated with latest development in the field of diabetes and endocrinology and is a sought-after expert faculty speaker in regional and national conferences in Endocrinology and Diabetes. He has been guiding post graduates in medicine and pediatrics with their thesis work and has been a research advisor for several PhD projects of the institute. His special interest is to  focus and  channelize his expertise and knowledge towards clinically and regionally relevant research for betterment of patient care. He is a firm believer of ‘together we can’.

Projects

Triaging of indeterminate thyroid nodules combining radiomics, molecular cytopathology and mutation profile - multicentric study

Dr Shriraam Mahadevan is one of the co-principal investigators of this multicentric project funded by Endocrine Society of India. The project is ongoing currently and would pave way for more pragmatic use of available resources in evaluation of thyroid nodules

Imbalance of pro- and anti-inflammatory bioactive lipids, reverse cholesterol transport (HDL function) in the progression of prediabetes to type 2 diabetes

Dr Shriraam Mahadevan is co-investigator in this project in collaboration with the Biomedical Sciences Department of SRIHER. The project is funded by ICMR

Investigating genetic and epigenetic biomarker in Paget ’s disease of Bone

Dr Shriraam Mahadevan is a Co-Principal Investigator of this project being done in collaboration with Dept of Central Research Facility. This is a project related to a rare disorder of bone (Paget disease) that is curiously diagnosed predominantly in South India. This, probably first of its kind genetic research in this condition from India would throw more light on the genetic and epigenetic basis of regional and geographic variation of this rare bone disorder.
