Prof MS Muthu, Chairs the Centre for Early Childhood Caries Research (CECCRe), at Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, India. He was awarded the fellow of ISPPD in the year 2022 and the BR Vacher Oration in 2023. He has 130 plus PubMed indexed publications. That includes 35 systematic reviews out of which 5 are Cochrane systematic reviews. He is the first Indian dentist from a dental school to get an extramural funding from the National Institutes of Health (USA). He is the Chair of Global Task Force on “Cleft Without Caries”. His major contributions to Pediatric Dentistry are the modified Talons cusp classification, classification of dens evaginatus, OXIS classification of inter proximal contacts, FeAST scale, TeDiE (teddy) technique of administering local anesthetics to children and the concept Sustained Anticipatory Guidance (SAG). He is the founder director of Pedoplanet children dental centers and the co-founder of Ignobilis Terrain LLP
Innovative and socially scalable approaches are urgently needed to prevent Early Childhood Caries (ECC). We seek to develop a first-of-its-kind interactive mobile dental app that will provide age appropriate oral health related anticipatory guidance to parents/caregivers by sending out motivational alerts tailored to infant’s age and stage of development addressing specific changes in oral health. The proposed approach is prevention focused and thereby highly rewarding and cost-effective compared to the traditional invasive strategies that target the burden of ECC in low- and middle- income countries.
