This project aims to assess specific biologic markers during active orthodontic treatment and over one year of retention and relate these markers to severity of relapse. The objectives are to investigate the expression of MMP1, TRAP5a and Tec protein in patients’ saliva at baseline, immediately after appliance placement, at debonding and one year after retention, to develop and validate a scale to objectively quantify relapse and to determine the association of MMP1, TRAP5a and Tec protein with the quantum of relapse using the newly developed Relapse Assessment Scale.
