Dr.Kalpana Ramachandran is currently the Professor and Head of the Department of Anatomy at Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, SRIHER, Chennai with 26 years of teaching experience. She is also the National Co-Coordinator for the NPTEL-DTH Medicine (Anatomy) under the SWAYAM Prabha Project for Health Sciences, a joint initiative with IIT Madras under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. In this role, she oversees the recording of video lectures in Anatomy with experts from across the country,Co Convener – ACME,SRMC NMC Nodal Centre for Faculty Development,Convenor of the Foundation Committee of the NMC Curriculum Committee,Member of several committees at SRIHER, including the Department of Medical Education, PG Curriculum Committee, and the Professional ECE (Early Clinical Exposure) Committee and Ph.D Guide/Research Supervisor in Anatomy and Medical Education at SRIHER and other universities. She has organized and conducted numerous CME programs, International webinars, conferences, and workshops in the fields of Anatomy and Medical Education. She is an External and Internal examiner for undergraduate and postgraduate courses at SRIHER and various other universities, has authored several book chapters and published numerous papers in peer-reviewed national and international journals such as the European Journal of Anatomy, Anatomical Sciences Education, National Medical Journal, and South East Asian Journal of Medical Education,Presented papers and chaired sessions at national and international conferences. She is also a National Editorial Board Member of the National Journal of Clinical Anatomy,Associate Editor of the IP Indian Journal of Anatomy & Surgery of Head, Neck & Brain and Peer reviewer for various National and International journals.
As a Professor and Head of the Department of Anatomy, Dr. Kalpana is committed to delivering comprehensive Clinical Anatomy education to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Leveraging her FAIMER Fellowship, she is deeply passionate about integrating innovations in Anatomical Sciences Education, including virtual reality in anatomy teaching and game-based learning. Her experience at renowned institutions such as Christian Medical College, Vellore, has empowered her to introduce novel teaching and assessment methods.Her key areas of interest include exploring innovative teaching methods, Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME), and E-learning.
