Dr. Kavitha R Thangaraj is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, at Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, where her research is focused on the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in monocrotophos-induced muscle paralysis in Wistar rats. Dr. Kavitha received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the Wellcome Trust Research Laboratory, Division of Gastrointestinal Sciences, Christian Medical College, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, examining the “Role of Nitric Oxide and Mitochondrial Calcium Handling in Muscle Paralysis Induced by Acute Organophosphate Poisoning.” Post PhD she worked as a Research associate for an ICMR project at the Wellcome Trust Research Laboratory, Division of Gastrointestinal Sciences, Christian Medical College, Vellore. And then joined the paediatrics department, CMC as Research Coordinator, at the Centre for Stem Cell Research (a unit of inStem, Bengaluru), it’s a clinical trial project and had collaboration between Karolinska Institute, Sweden, and DBT India. She completed post-doctoral (Women Scientist Scheme A, DST, Government of India) research at the Department of Human Genetics, Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research (Deemed University), Porur, Chennai, on the study title “Hydrogen sulphide role in in vitro model of inflammatory bowel disease,” and then joined in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, SRIHER. She has 8 peer-reviewed research articles and 3 book chapters published.
