Dr. S. Hemalatha is a distinguished academician and researcher with an illustrious career spanning over 24 years in the fields of teaching and research. Her extensive contributions to the scientific community, particularly in the areas of pharmacognosy and phytochemistry, have earned her significant recognition and accolades, including prestigious grants from government agencies such as the DST Women Scientist and the DST SERB Young Scientist funds.
Research Focus
The Department of Pharmacognosy, research often revolves around the study of natural products derived from plants and other organisms for their potential pharmaceutical or therapeutic applications. We investigate plant extracts, secondary metabolites, and traditional herbal remedies to discover bioactive compounds with medicinal properties. Areas of focus include bio-guided isolation, pharmacological activity, phytochemistry, Phyto Pharmaceuticals, Nano Formulations and the development of herbal medicines. Additionally, there might be exploration of sustainable sourcing, quality control, and standardization of herbal products.
