Dr. K. Muthu Prathibha MD (Physiology) (she/her), Professor and Head of the Department of Physiology, Sri Ramachandra Medical College & Research Institute, Chennai, has over 16 years of teaching experience after her postgraduation. She is a Phase I Member of the Curriculum Committee and serves as a faculty member of the Medical Education Unit, Nodal Centre, SRIHER.
Dr. Prathibha has contributed extensively to academics and publishing. She is a contributing author of the First South Asian Edition of Ross and Wilson’s Anatomy and Physiology in Health and Illness (2022) and authored the chapter on the Gastrointestinal System in the 13th edition of Best & Taylor’s Textbook of Physiology (2012). She is also Section Editor for Sleep Stories, the newsletter of the Indian Society for Sleep Research. She has 18 publications in national and international indexed journals, including six Scopus-indexed papers in the past three years.
Her academic contributions have been recognized with the Best Teacher Award for Phase I MBBS in 2019, 2021, and 2022, in addition to awards for paper and poster presentations at national conferences. She has undergone the MCI Advance Medical Education Course, CISP training, and holds certifications including ISAK Level 1 Anthropometrist, AHA-accredited BLS and ACLS Instructor, and training in medical humanities through the Theatre of the Oppressed.
Her research interests are reflected in multiple funded projects supported by ICMR, TNSCST, and NCSTC, and she has guided 32 student research projects. She is an examiner for MBBS, BDS, and MSc Physiology under several universities and a reviewer for the Indian Journal of Medical Ethics.
Her academic and research focus includes Geriatric Physiology, Artificial Intelligence, Sleep Physiology, and Medical Education. She also contributes to scientific writing as Director of Editnstat and pursues interests in medical humanities and creative writing.
