Bio

I am an alumni of the Department of Human Genetics, having completed my post-graduation (2011), Ph.D (2019) and post-doctoral research (2020) at Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education & Research. My Ph.D. thesis focused on identifying differential microRNA and target gene expression as a shared genetic marker for chronic periodontitis, laying the foundation for my continued extensive research to investigate the link between periodontitis and cardiovascular diseases. Following my post-doctoral experience, I worked as a Clinical Research Scientist in Hindu Mission Hospital, where I was the Principal investigator for an observational study on identifying Cav-3, GDF-15 and ST-2 genes to predict the progression to cardiac remodelling in post-AMI patients. This involved patient follow-up until the occurrence of the event. I was also involved in a large community-based epidemiological survey study which generated a scoring system with novel risk factors to predict CVD risk. My collaborative work with University of Geneva on evaluating potential miRNAs for their mechanistic role in  progression of acute myocardial infarction patients has generated significant appreciation and is published in the Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine  In 2022, I received the DST-INSPIRE Faculty fellowship for my project on “Functional assessment of microRNAs and establishment of molecular mechanism involved in the link between cardiovascular disease and periodontitis”. I worked as a DST-INSPIRE Faculty at the Centre for Biotechnology, Anna University, Chennai, performing both as a Principal Investigator and an academician by teaching courses and guiding undergraduate and postgraduate students on their projects. In June 2025, I joined as a faculty in the Department of Human Genetics to continue my research and academic journey and contribute significantly to my alma mater.
