Prof. Dr. R. Lakshmi Narasimhan is a highly respected neurologist based in Chennai, with a remarkable career spanning over three decades. He holds an impressive array of qualifications -MBBS, MD in Internal Medicine, DNB Internal Medicine, DM Neurology, DNB Neurology and Ph.D Neurology -along with advanced fellowships (FAAN, FIAN,FEBN) and FRCP honors. He currently serves as Professor & Head of the Department of Neurology at Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education & Research, Chennai. Previously, he held the position of Director & Professor of Neurology at The Institute of Neurology, Madras Medical College.
Dr. Lakshmi Narasimhan is deeply involved in both clinical and academic neurology. He has pioneered key services such as the Neurocritical Care Unit, Immunotherapy Unit, and a dedicated “Demyelination Clinic” at Madras Medical College. He is an active researcher and educator; his contributions include over 100 peer-reviewed articles, six Cochrane reviews, and editing multiple neurology textbooks including DeJong’s Textbook of Neurology (SAE), Paul Brazis Textbook of Neurology (SAE) and Biller Textbook of Practical Neurology. He also founded a self-help group for women with epilepsy and serves as the state nodal officer for stroke under Tamil Nadu’s SCRIPT initiative.
Beyond his hospital work, Dr. Lakshmi Narasimhan has held leadership roles in national neurology organizations and is currently the president of the Indian Academy of Neurology and the World Headache Society. He actively participates in national and international conferences demonstrating an unwavering commitment to advancing neurological care and education in India.
