Penultimate Treatment Line for Fracture Repair – A Clinical Trial Using Bone Adhesive in Managing Fractured Mandible

Maxillofacial surgeons are exploring the use of biodegradable and biocompatible adhesives for bone fractures, focusing on biocompatibility, degradability, and bond strength.

Bone Adhesive (Tetranite), a novel mineral-organic bone adhesive, reacts in an aqueous medium to form a self-setting material that adheres to bone even in wet conditions.

Preclinical studies have shown that bone adhesive enhances primary human osteoblast cell viability and proliferation at fracture sites.

A prospective, randomized clinical trial aims to assess bone adhesive’s effectiveness in stabilizing mandibular fractures over a period of two years.

This study involves adults with mandibular fracture non-union due to trauma, comparing bone adhesive application under local anesthesia to standard care.

Bone adhesive is expected to be a functional alternative to miniplate fixation in fracture management.
