BREASTFEEDING AWARENESS CAMPAIGN AT SRIHER

Mrs. Saranya Ponvannan, eminent actor inaugurated a week long breast
feeding awareness campaign at Sri Ramachandra Medical College here today.
Narrating from her own life experience she emphasised the importance of
breast feeding for healthy children. It was the nurses in the hospital who
prompted her to give breast milk despite a caesarean delivery and it was her
paediatrician who insisted on giving breast milk and nothing else. Today both
her daughters are doctors and they are healthy only because of her breast
feeding she added.

Speaking on the occasion the Vice Chancellor Dr. Uma Sekar said
exclusive breast feeding has now become a rarity and many a mother has
doubts whether breast milk alone is sufficient which we need to ally.

Dr. K. Balaji Singh, Dean Medical College said with good breast feeding
a woman has lesser chance of breast cancer.

Dean Education, Dr. Latha Ravichandran and heads of departments of
OG, Neo Natology, Paediatrics, Nursing and Clinical Nutrition who are
conducting the awareness together were among those who attended the event.
