Discuss the Clinical applied anatomy and embryology of the eye and structures relevant to ophthalmology, the physiology of normal and altered functions in the eye with structures involved and biochemical nature of changes causing ophthalmic disease.
Demonstrate Oblique and slit lamp examination (Diffuse examination, Focal examination, Retroillumination – direct and indirect, Sclerotic scatter, Specular reflection, Staining modalities and interpretation.
Identify ophthalmic signs and to diagnose diseases of the eye. Diffuse examination
Areas of limitations should be identified and the need to seek help in areas of doubt should be recognized.
Identify the community causes of eye diseases in an endemic population and educate the local people about prevention , treatment and rehabilitation
Participate in community eye camps both as part of multispeciality screening and as primary ophthalmic screening camps and help in identifying and treating preventable causes of blindness
Learn recent advances and developments in academic and surgical areas of ophthalmology
Participate in research activities and evaluate data for new and prevalent ophthalmic disease
Learn Surgical skills in cataract, glaucoma cornea and minor procedures involving lid and conjunctival swellings.
Be aware about medico-legal problems that can occur following treatment and surgery. Importance of pre operative assessment and consent and meticulous post operative follow up
Know the basic concepts of research methodology, plan a research project and know how to consult library.
Learn the basic methodology of teaching and develop competence in teaching medical/ paramedical students.
Demonstrate integrity, accountability, respect, compassion and dedicated patient care. The student will demonstrate a commitment to excellence and continuous professional development.
