Bio

Dr. S. Nagalakshmi  is a distinguished academician in Pharmaceutics, recognized for her specialization in Novel Drug Delivery Systems with focused expertise in ocular, transdermal, and targeted drug delivery. Her academic career is defined by significant contributions to advanced formulation science, biomaterials development particularly scaffold-based systems and nanotechnology- driven therapeutic delivery. Her doctoral research involved the systematic design, development, and characterization of an innovative ocular drug delivery system. This work not only strengthened her scientific foundation but also facilitated the successful acquisition of competitive extramural support, including funding from LSRB- DRDO, underscoring the translational relevance and scientific merit of her research. She has played an instrumental role in promoting research-driven learning by guiding Thirteen Chancellor’s Summer Research Projects and two GATE- sponsored projects, thereby fostering scientific curiosity and competence among undergraduate and postgraduate scholars. Her teaching portfolio spans a wide range of core Pharmaceutics courses for B. Pharm and M. Pharm programs, wherein she integrates contemporary research insights with structured pedagogical approaches to enrich student learning outcomes. Her scholarly contributions include 45 research publications in reputed, peer-reviewed, indexed journals, along with multiple presentations at national and international conferences and symposiums. These contributions reflect her sustained engagement in advancing pharmaceutical sciences through rigorous investigation and dissemination. As an approved Ph.D. supervisor at SRIHER, she currently mentors six doctoral scholars and serves as a Research Advisory Committee (RAC) member for four Ph.D. candidates, ensuring academic rigor, research quality, and ethical scientific conduct. Her commitment to innovation is further evidenced by five filed patents, highlighting her ability to translate scientific concepts into potential real-world applications. Through a combination of research excellence, academic leadership, and dedicated mentorship, she continues to contribute meaningfully to the progress of pharmaceutical sciences and to the professional development of future researchers and healthcare practitioners.

  1. Awarded with a cash prize of Rs 1000 /-for the poster entitled “Fabrication of vesicular drug delivery system of niosomal topical formulation for the effective treatment of osteoarthritis” in Drug ,discovery and development – 3 D’s in Pharmacy, conducted by Department of Pharmaceutics on 19th,20 th September 2014 held at SRM college of Pharmacy, Kattankulathur, Chennai.
  2. Recognised as “Aspiring Research Ambassador of Sri Ramachandra University” in appreciation of Promising research potential as demonstrated by quality publications and initiatives in generating research grants.
  3. Awarded first prize in oral prensentation for the paper entitled “ Fabrication and characterization of drug loaded scaffolds for corneal tissue engineering” in Drug, discovery and development: A focus on newer technologies” on 7 th and 8 th Feb 2019 conducted by Department of Pharmaceutics, SRM college of pharmacy, SRMIST, kattankulathur, Chennai

Awarded Gift voucher of Rs 3000/-second prize in e oral presentation for the research paper entitled ” Fabrication and characterization of porous nanohydroxyapatite/chitosan-cellulose composite scaffold for biomedical application” in the International symposium on medication therapy management 2021 (ISMTM) held on 12-14 November 2021, Jointly organised by Sultan Ul Uloom college of Pharmacy & CliMed research solutions in collaboration with Indian Pharmaceutical Association, World youth heart federation-India, Association of community pharmacists of India and International Federation for Medical Therapy Management.

Awarded second prize in oral presentation in National conference on PHARMGREE 22 on 22/07/2022 for the research paper entitled “ Fabrication of tissue engineered cornea with collagen and PLGA drug loaded sandwich hybrid construct electrospun mat” at M.G.R.Educational and Research Institute (DU) , Chennai
